Wild Space is Netflix's award-winning production house for Natural History film-making. Unlike traditional studios, its goal isn’t just to attract viewers - but to attract top-tier creative talent.
To position Wild Space as a uniquely compelling destination for filmmakers, I began by immersing myself in the company’s culture and career opportunities. This research informed a brand strategy centered on Creative Collaboration, which became the foundation for a bold messaging platform and visual identity.
I brought digital expert Dan and his highly skilled Pixelfish team on board to help craft a captivating website to establish Wild Space as a visionary force in the TV industry.
The aim was to create a brand that conveyed the process of film-making visually, highlighting the creative nature of the company. In order to showcase the reality of the people and the process, I used images from not only from official shoots but also staff pics and BHS imagery, setting them apart from other film companies who focus solely on polished final imagery.
I developed a scrapbook style that captured the collaborative feel of directional notes and storyboarding, but with hints of a dramatic cinema aesthetic. Imagery is arranged in an irregular way, linked with distinctive coloured flourishes and ‘type islands’ - broken up copy that gives focus and pace to the messaging.
The volume of this style can be turned up or down to match messaging and content. Turned up for when talking about collaboration or careers, for instance. And turned down when a feature films needs to do all the talking.
